“Vanja Sandell Billströms and Reza Hazares, one of the artist duos in the project Shared History*, built their artistic collaboration on sharing stories. Their method of exploring different interpretations of “shared history” was to take turns being the listener and the narrator. Questions about privileges, responsibilities and how both memories and bodies are deformed by living under pressure as a result of stress or exile, were central points of departure from which their personal stories are told.

With the in Sweden so-called refugee crisis in 2015 as a starting point, we take part of two different perspectives that show personal contemplations in the middle of a historical event. In Winzip Senses, the feeling of isolation plays a big role. The walls of the apartment and everyday objects are given new ambiguous meanings and become both a security and a wall to the outside world. When we are currently experiencing a completely different crisis, a pandemic that forces us to physically shield ourselves from each other, we can see the film from a new horizon and open up for new readings of the stories that are told. ”

Färgfabriken is an art venue in Stockholm, Sweden. Winzip Senses is available on Färgfabriken’s website until the 21th of January 2021: fargfabriken.se

*The Shared History project was a collaboration between Färgfabriken, LCCA in Latvia and the Baltic Sea Cultural Center in Poland, co-financed by the EU’s Creative Europe program.

Tempo Sound Award goes to Park!

Thank you, the best sound designer Claes Lundberg! And thank you Tempo and Momento Film!

SHARED HISTORY – GROUP SHOW AT FÄRGFABRIKEN

With: Valeria Montti Colque, Hala Alnaji, Vanja Sandell Billström och Reza Hazare.

Opening the 5th of May, 11 – 5, talk at 2.30 pm.
Location: Färgfabriken, Lövholmsbrinken 1 , 117 43 Stockholm

Öppettider: torsdag 11-19, fredag 11-16, lördag – söndag 11-17.

Shared History is a cross-disciplinary project with the goal of critically connecting and artistically interpreting the different reactions on the refugee situation that are strongly affecting, shaping and dividing the European Union, on both a political and domestic level. With a Baltic scope, the project’s creative research process will approach issues such as policy making, judicial and geographical borders, statistics, identity, public opinion and post-truth information related to migration and integration in Sweden, Poland and Latvia.

The exhibition Shared History opens in Färgfabrik’s project rooms on May the 5th. The exhibition shows two installations processed during several months of collaboration between the artist Valeria Montti Colque and the architect Hala Alnaji, as well as the artists Vanja Sandell Billström and Reza Hazare. The architect Hala Alnaji and the artist Valeria Montti have explored how the relationship with nature is connected with integration and with people’s thought and dreams of feeling at home. What does the ”Swedish nature” mean to those who recently arrived in Sweden?

The artists Vanja Sandell Billström and Reza Hazare creates a collective view based on questions of privilege, responsibility and how both memories and bodies are deformed by living under pressure as a result of stress and refuge.

The designers Gabriel Maher and Isabel Mager stand for a graphic deconstruction of the project application. By dissecting the bureaucratic graphical interface, the idea of measurable culture and its instrumental purpose is clarified.
